Did you know that the total cost to the U.S. economy for our population of overweight fellow citizens is now more than a quarter of a trillion dollars. This was reported in the January 11th issue of Bloomberg Business Week.
$127 billion is for direct health care expenses. The rest is for loss of productivity and disability expenses.
This means that if America simply got a handle on its problem of chronic over-eating and got its collective weight down to something consistent with good sense, health care for all would be affordable. How about that?
And you thought obesity was an individual problem that didn’t affect you?
It is a weight we are all forced to carry.
